The rule of 30% - the death sentence for NGO in Poznań?
10-11-2009

The future of III sector in Poznań is under threat of the rule of 30% that is being forced through by the City Promotion Office. The rule has to oblige the non-governmental organisations, which are realizing city-funded projects, to find 30% of the cost in 2010 from their own funds (this means, e.g. from donations). What is more important, the organisations will have to finance from this 30% the promotion activities accepted by the City Promotion Office, instead of helping the poor. This is a recquirement that is impossible to be realised. Honestly, it is a death sentence for many important social, educational and cultural acitivties in Poznań, and for those associations and foundations that are running those activities. A letter to non-governamental organisations in Poznań. Please, contact us if you are interested in our action.

EDIT: In a telephone call, Mr Borys Fronbert from the City Promotion Office expressed his understanding for our arguments and declared that the social activities will not be included in the 70/30 rule. The official stand of the City Promotion Office has to be posted till the end of the week. By this time we are suspending the activities conserning this case.

Manipulation in Gazeta Wyborcza

13-10-2009

In connection with yesterday's action, by the Municipal Council,  Gazeta Wyborcza has published on its websites an article, originally titled "Non-governmental organizations are asking the local town for a place”. It was within an hour changed to "The Better World asks for a place for themselves." It is an obvious manipulation of which may lead to discredit our work in an environment of Poznan NGOs and limiting the development initiated by our campaign “Better Poznan.” More on the blog of the Association.

Consulations on the Poznań Developement Strategy 2030

28-09-2009

On Tuesday the consultations on the Developement Strategy of Poznań took place took place in the Poznań  Municipal Council. The strategy of the developement to the year 2030 is currently still being touched up. Consultations were organised by Association of Poznań Enthusiasts. Unfortunatelly, despite the organisator’s efforts (whom we would like to thank for this initiative) the consultations turned out to be a pretence. Reasons for this turn of events were the weak factual preparation of the experts working on the Strategy and the lack of the procedures that would oblige the authorities to take into considerationthe points raised by the citizens.  The priorities of the Strategy’s position aroused general opposition from the gathered people.  More you can read on Better World blog.

“This is what democracy looks like” in Gymnasium 50
 24-09-2009

On Thursday, September 24, at the invitation of the Administration of Gymnasium 50 in Poznań we carried out a screening of a film entitled “This is what democracy looks like”. Almost 10 years ago there was the first, and for the time being the last summit of the world financial institutions that was blocked by the alter-global movement. Events that took place in Seattle in 1999 remind of what can be achieved by organised social movement, and what is more, how brutally the ruling elite can act to protect its business.

On Saturday, September 19, during the Day of Non-Governmental Organization our new campaign has begun - “Better Poznań”.  Its aim is to consolidate III sector in our city and mobilize the citizens to regain their influence on the public sphere of Poznań in the spirit of the active democracy.  In a few days there will be some consultative meeting with the representatives of non-govenmental organizations concerned with the demands of III sector in Poznań and the relationship between people from non-governmental organizations and municipal authorities (for example in the context of housing and letting policy ZKZL)
